We had an unusually busy year in 2005 and documented much of it on our website www.didner.com.
Aaron and Joey began their directing, producing and acting careers by using our camcorder to create Instructional videos on martial arts (Super Thunder Ninjas and Super Thunder Ninjas II) as well as Joey’s epic adventure The Dragon, The Water Wolf, The Birdie and The Jar of Peanut Butter. January also brought a big ice storm in which Pam discovered that the streets were completely covered with ice as soon as she got out of our driveway. Being as we’re at the top of a hill though, she was unable to do much about it except slide down the hill along with two other cars which eventually slid to a stop in a pile. Nobody was hurt though and the car damage wasn’t too bad.
March saw the boys participating in their Chinese class’ Speech Contest, which we recorded for posterity. March was also one of many heavy travel months for Michael and Pam. Michael went to Bangalore, India and Penang, Malaysia where he was duped into a ‘moderately’ difficult hike up Penang ‘hill’. This turned out to be the hardest hike he’s ever been on in which the first thousand plus feet were up stairs cut into the mountain. Then it got worse.
Pam did much more business-related traveling during the year though, including trips to Taiwan, Japan, China, South Korea and Kiev, Ukraine. This does not include the extensive domestic travel required in her job as Director of IDF Americas (Intel Developer Forum) for Intel.
David, Sandy, Jon and Ron all joined us in Oregon for Passover and a fun time was had by all. Michael was extremely pleased to have recovered enough from his ACL repair surgery to be able to play tennis with the rest of the family during this visit only to rip another part of the same knee at the end of that first hour. It wasn’t quite as big a deal though and Michael had more surgery later that month to repair his lateral meniscus. He was then able to play tennis most of the summer with David, Sandy and the usual players in Hemlock Farms. (Good thing the strokes came back because he’s about as fleet-of-foot as a pregnant elephant.)
The boys received their Green Belts in Tae Kwon Do in June. June also marked Michael’s fourteenth year with Intel which enabled him to take his second sabbatical beginning late that month. After a week or so of running errands, we headed to Pennsylvania for our typical July fourth weekend with the parents. Jon flew up from Florida and Ron joined us for a barbecue as well. About a week later, Jon, Michael, Pam, Aaron and Joey finally made the big trip to Israel that we’ve been saying we’ll do for a decade or so. We had a fantastic time visiting with our many cousins there and seeing all the historic sites. Check out the web page about our entire summer at Summer2005.htm. The boys spent as much time as they could in the water and really improved their swimming skills during the summer.
In September Aaron started Second Grade and Joey began first. They also joined a soccer team for the first time in October and in December continued with an indoor soccer league.
Perhaps the biggest family news is that Ron opened his own restaurant at 568 Amsterdam Ave in New York City. The food and atmosphere are great! Treat yourselves and visit Pair of 8’s if you are in New York!.
We ended the year with a Piano Recital in which Aaron, Joey and even Michael (the only adult student to do so) participated. All three have been taking Piano lessons since January and learned that there’s nothing like the prospect of an upcoming public embarrassment to get you to focus on practicing! Aaron topped off the month with a Poetry recital at school, too.
We’re still firming up plans for 2006. Michael took a new job within Intel, after returning from sabbatical, in which there will be much less travel. Pam on the other hand will continue to do a great deal of travel, although most of it will be domestic with the exception of a trip to Sao Paulo, Brazil in November.
Best Regards from Michael, Pam, Aaron and Joey!!!
As always, please drop us a note letting us know how you're doing at didner@yahoo.com
